Towards the end of term, we enjoyed a special International Christmas Week, using ideas and resources from our partner schools.

Our Green Team have adopted Germany as their European Partner at the start of the Comenius Project.

These children in Year 1 and Year 2 are aged six and seven years.

We talked about Christmas traditions in Germany and ways of celebrating such as Christmas markets and special foods.  We particularly enjoyed gingerbread house cakes.

We talked about the custom of Saint Nicholas who visits homes on the 6th December to bring sweets to children who have been good. In England we call him Santa Claus and look forward to his visit on the 24th December.

We enjoyed the story of the Nutcracker which is a                         Can you recognise any of

familiar story recalling Christmas customs. Many homes                    these days of the week?

are decorated with wooden characters from this story.

The Golden Angel is a familiar German Christmas                       German Flag

folk tale.  It helps to remind us of the Christmas

message.

The Golden Angel is also a traditional German Christmas decoration found in many homes.

We enjoyed making children's Gluehwein.

This is a warm drink - popular in German homes    and Christmas markets.

In German homes friends are welcomed with food served on beautiful plates.

Here are some examples of work completed by the Yellow Team children whose adopted country is Poland.

These children are aged ten and eleven years.

Here is my theatre where you can relax and watch a movie. You can see Joseph and Mary caring for their special son in the stable. When you pull the tab at the side Mary leans over the crib.

Courtney

My Nativity scene is on the right. It shows Mary in a stable made from a cave.

Daniel

Elves make toys in Santa's workshop. Santa takes these all over the World, including Poland.

Paul

Batuam means snowman in Polish. This snowman has been built in a forest.

Ryan

Here is our collection of special Christmas menus. Some are English meals and others are Polish. We enjoyed writing different dishes using Polish words.

Adam, Lewis, Jak, Amie, Melissa and Courtney

Here is my Christmas picture. It shows Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I have written the title in Polish too. Rudolph make Christmas really special for everyone.

Melissa

My poster shows lots of Christmas spirit. The stocking is really big because children like lots of presents on Christmas Day.

Amie

Look at my snowmen. One is Polish and the other is English. They are great friends but are worried about the warm weather coming soon.

Here are some examples of activities completed by our Red Team children.

These children are aged four to five years.

We studied the advent calendar on our interactive whiteboard.

These are our German Christmas pictures.

We have learnt some special German words too.

We use the globe to find Germany!

We tasted German biscuits which Mrs Littlefair bought back from Heidelberg, Germany.

They were a delicious start to playtime.

Not many pieces left!
Here is our Class Advent Calendar. How many days to Christmas?

Here is a snapshot of our children's work in the Blue Team. These children are aged eight to nine years and really enjoy Christmas too!
