Easington Colliery is a former mining town situated on the coast of northern England in County Durham. Our primary school was relocated to a new building in June 1998. We took three years to plan the new school, drawing upon the ideas and aspirations of children and families as well as staff, governors and community.

There are 450 children on roll aged between 4 and 11 years. We believe that children learn well when they are happy, secure and challenged positively. Good relationships are a priority.

We have many partnerships operating in the school; Seaham & Easington Excellence Cluster, Primary Strategy Learning Networks, Creative Partnerships, Place to Be, Initial Teacher Training Partnership with Durham University and the School Sports Co-ordinator programme.

Our school has been awarded the Activemark GOLD.

In October 2007, we gained the International School Award. We were delighted to achieve this prestigious award which recognises the International Dimension in our curriculum.

Here are some photographs of the Award Ceremony.

Miss Wilkinson arrives in London after a long journey.

The location was very impressive. There were lots of displays and exhibits.

Pat Smart takes another look at our School International Portfolio which contains children's work across our large school.

George Alagiah, BBC Foreign Correspondent, was the guest speaker at the Annual Ceremony.

George Alagiah reminded everyone of the need for strong international partnerships within the country as well as beyond. Recognition and respect.

Pat Smart is presented with our award, a glass cube with a globe inside.

Ruth Wilkinson shakes hands with the guest speaker.
