In May 2008, three of our teachers visited Mihai Eminescu School in the centre of Giurgiu.

Mr Weightman, Miss Hubery and Miss Parkin travelled by plane from Newcastle Airport to Heathrow, London then to Bucharest the capital city in Romania. The flight from London to Romania took around three hours. Mrs Weightman also came along!

Here we are outside the school on a beautiful sunny day. The temperature is already 10 degrees higher than in England.

The primary age children come to school in the morning. Their lessons begin at 8 o'clock and finish at midday when the older students arrive.

We saw lots of lessons in this large school.

This was a mathematics lesson for eight year olds.

The classroom was light and cheerful. Many of the girls wore the same summer dresses.
Each child had their own Mathematics Book. Some of the boys wore smart black suits with waistcoats and bow ties!
The teacher stopped to mark the children's work throughout the lesson. Here is a page inside the text book. It shows how to subtract.
Children's exercise books were really neat! Group challenge.
The text book had lots of helpful pictures. The winners!

Here is a photograph of all the Comenius teachers together outside the Town Hall of Giurgiu.

The Town Hall was a most impressive building. It was also air conditioned!

Special friends.

Later in the week we were introduced to the Mayor of Giurgiu.

Here we are standing together in front of a map of the town. This is the meeting room where the Mayor welcomed us after lunch.
Here the Mayor is speaking to us about the Comenius Project. The Mayor was very friendly. He congratulated all the schools in the project.
